That you had issued a cheque bearing No. ________ dated ________ for Rs. ________/- (Rupees ________ only) drawn on ________, Branch ________, in favour of my client towards discharge of a legally enforceable debt/liability. 2. That when the said cheque was presented for encashment, the same was dishonoured and returned unpaid on ________ with the remarks "Insufficient Funds". 3. That the said cheque was issued by you in discharge of a legally enforceable debt and the dishonour of the said cheque amounts to an offence under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. 4. You are hereby called upon to make the payment of Rs. ________/- to my client within 15 (fifteen) days from the receipt of this notice, failing which appropriate legal proceedings, both civil and criminal, shall be initiated against you under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, which is punishable with imprisonment up to 2 years or with fine which may extend to twice the amount of the cheque, or with both. 5. The receiver of the notice has 15 days to make the payment. If payment is not made within this period, the payee can file a criminal complaint within 30 days. The offence is punishable with imprisonment up to 2 years or fine up to twice the cheque amount, or both.
